Electric heavy trucks tested on South African freight corridors in 4,000 km trial
Two production SANY electric trucks completed the Johannesburg to Cape Town leg, about 1,400 km, of the Mzansi EV Truck Super Test 2026, an independent trial of more than 4,000 km run by flxEV with partners including GoMetro and SANY South Africa. A fully loaded Durban to Johannesburg run on the N3 followed on 7 and 8 October. Charging constraints emerged at Colesberg.
Why it matters
The trial data will help fleet operators and charging investors judge whether heavy-truck electrification is workable on South Africa's main freight routes.
