Tanzania's Fair Competition Commission prohibits the sale of Orca Energy's Tanzanian gas business
The Fair Competition Commission issued a notice on 5 October 2026 prohibiting the proposed sale of PAE PanAfrican Energy Corporation, which indirectly owns PanAfrican Energy Tanzania, to Taifa Gas Tanzania and Amber Energy Investment. Reasons followed on 15 October. The purchasers appealed to the Fair Competition Tribunal on 20 October, and Orca says the transaction has not been terminated.
Why it matters
It is a clear example of merger control shaping energy-sector deal outcomes in Tanzania, a factor investors need to build into transaction timelines.
