Kenya's Cabinet endorses a plan to add 6,900 hospital beds
The plan includes a new 2,000-bed Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, a 1,000-bed Level Six hospital in Mombasa and 300 extra beds at each of 13 county Level Five hospitals. Cabinet also approved a Sh8 billion partnership with France for head and neck surgical services. No construction timelines or financing structure for the hospital programme were announced.
Why it matters
A hospital build-out on this scale points to future demand for construction, equipment and clinical services, although funding and delivery details are still to come.
