Nordic Impact Funds backs Ugandan solar water company Irrisol Engineering
Nordic Impact Funds has invested in Irrisol Engineering, joining earlier backer DOB Equity. The amount was not disclosed. Founded in 2017, Irrisol builds and runs solar-powered water systems for rural communities, with pay-as-you-go access through mobile money. It has built 14 community mini-grids and more than 600 standalone systems serving about 350,000 people, and targets one million by 2028.
Why it matters
It shows rural water supply being financed as a commercial, recurring-revenue business rather than only through grants.
