First Quantum's expanded Kansanshi mine on track to process 27 million tonnes in 2026
First Quantum Minerals said its expanded Kansanshi copper mine in Zambia is on track to process about 27 million tonnes of ore in 2026, 8% above design capacity. The $1.2 billion S3 expansion, commissioned in August 2025, is expected to roughly double annual copper output to about 277,000 tonnes. Zambia aims to lift national copper output to 3 million tonnes a year by 2031.
Why it matters
Kansanshi's performance is central to Zambia's target of more than tripling copper output from 890,346 tonnes in 2025.
