India's BL Agro Industries plans a $739 million phased investment in Tanzania

BL Agro Industries plans to invest Rs 70 billion (US$739 million) in Tanzania over the next decade. The first project is an oilseed processing complex costing about US$158 million, with capacity of about 1,100 tonnes a day and operations expected within three years, subject to approvals. Plans also cover livestock breeding and agricultural infrastructure.

Why it matters

If carried through, the plan would add large-scale oilseed processing and farmer sourcing in East Africa, with Tanzania as a regional base.
