Google.org commits US$1 million to an AI filmmaking programme for African creators
Akuna Learning, part of The Akuna Group chaired by Sir Idris Elba, unveiled From Script to Screen with AI on 26 October 2026, backed by US$1 million from Google.org with a curriculum by Curious Refuge. The free programme is open to creators in Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and South Africa, with production funding for selected projects. Applications close on 15 November 2026.
Why it matters
It adds production funding and new tools to a creative sector where access to finance is a long-standing constraint.
