Ruto breaks ground on Devki Group's Ksh70 billion clinker and cement plant in Kitui

President William Ruto broke ground on 27 October on Devki Group's Ksh70 billion clinker and cement plant at Ngaaie, Mwingi North, the first cement manufacturing facility in Kitui County. Global Cement reports the investment at US$538 million, with completion scheduled for August 2027. The plant is intended to reduce Kenya's reliance on imported clinker.

Why it matters

Local clinker production reduces Kenya's exposure to imported inputs for cement, a core material for construction and infrastructure.
