AFC selects preferred contractors for 830 km Lobito Corridor railway linking Zambia and Angola

The Africa Finance Corporation has selected preferred bidders for the 830 km railway linking Zambia to Angola's Port of Lobito: Webuild, Mota-Engil and IC İçtaş for the Zambian section, and Mota-Engil and Odebrecht for the Angolan section. Contract negotiations begin in November 2026, with AFC aiming to conclude the EPC agreements within 8 to 12 weeks.

Why it matters

The line is designed to carry copper, cobalt and agricultural exports to the Atlantic, and moving to construction contracts is a key step towards delivery.
