Green Climate Fund approves $140 million for green hydrogen in Namibia and South Africa

The Green Climate Fund approved $140 million at its 46th Board meeting for industrial decarbonisation and green hydrogen in Namibia and South Africa. Namibia's SDG Namibia One Fund receives $56 million and South Africa's SA-H2 Fund $84 million, largely for construction equity. The Development Bank of Southern Africa is the accredited entity, and the funding supports Climate Investor Three.

Why it matters

Blended public climate finance of this kind is intended to bring commercial and institutional investors into early green hydrogen projects in Southern Africa.
