Glencore's cobalt output falls 52% under Congo's export quotas

Glencore produced 13,700 tonnes of own-sourced cobalt in the first nine months of 2026, down 52% from 28,500 tonnes a year earlier, as it held more material in solution under the Democratic Republic of the Congo's export quotas. Its African Copper division, which includes Kamoto Copper Company and Mutanda, produced 11,600 tonnes, down 56%. The restrictions are expected to last until at least the end of 2027.

Why it matters

The figures show how the DRC's quota policy is directly reducing output at major producers.
