British International Investment provides US$7 million to Okra Solar for rural Nigerian power
British International Investment, the UK's development finance institution, provided a US$7 million debt facility to Okra Solar. The working capital will buy equipment for about 150,000 new mesh-grid connections, with potential to bring electricity to 750,000 people in rural Nigeria for the first time. Okra currently serves more than 13,000 households.
Why it matters
Development finance for off-grid power widens energy access, which underpins rural enterprise and consumer markets.
