Egypt signs $1 billion World Bank financing for the second phase of its reform programme
Egypt signed a $1 billion financing agreement with the World Bank on 1 November under the second phase of its Development Policy Financing programme, approved by the World Bank board in May 2026. Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and World Bank Regional Director Walid Al-Atbani signed, with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly present. The reforms cover state-owned enterprise governance, private investment, tax revenue, social protection, carbon markets and electricity and water finances.
Why it matters
The reforms tied to this money, especially on state companies, decide how much room private firms get in Egypt's economy.
