Ethiopia seeks nearly $11 billion from partners for its third electrification plan
Ethiopia is seeking nearly $11 billion from the World Bank and other development partners for its third National Electrification Plan. The Ministry of Water and Energy puts the plan's cost at more than $18 billion, to reach 32.5 million households over the next decade, about 4.4 million of them off-grid. Private investors are expected to supply about $800 million for off-grid solutions; the external figure is a funding target, not a commitment.
Why it matters
One of Africa's largest electrification programmes, with a clear role for off-grid solar companies and their financiers.
