Green Climate Fund approves AFC's Africa Sovereign Climate Facility for four countries
The Green Climate Fund's board approved the Africa Sovereign Climate Facility, run by Africa Finance Corporation, on 28 October. The GCF is putting about $275 million in loans and grants towards a total of $675 million; AFC puts the facility at $690 million. It will help Angola, Benin, Côte d'Ivoire and Nigeria prepare and finance climate-aligned public investment in energy, food systems, water and sanitation, and climate-resilient infrastructure.
Why it matters
Finance for public projects that governments often struggle to prepare on their own, and a pipeline of work in four markets for builders, suppliers and advisers.
