Tunisia's parliament fast-tracks a €111.5 million AfDB loan for the Greater Tunis water network
Tunisia's Assembly of the Representatives of the People sent a bill approving a €111.5 million African Development Bank loan to its finance committee for urgent review. The loan is part of a €151.1 million programme for 2026 to 2031 to modernise Sonede's Greater Tunis drinking water network, alongside a €30 million EU grant and €9.6 million from Sonede, including 120,000 smart meters and 113 km of distribution networks. It runs 20 years with a 5-year grace period, at six-month Euribor plus 0.8%.
Why it matters
Cutting water losses in the capital lowers utility costs for businesses, and the terms show what AfDB charges a North African sovereign borrower.
