Zambia's IDC and China's Jijia form a joint venture for a cholera vaccine plant
Zambia's Industrial Development Corporation and China's Jijia International Medical Technology signed an agreement creating ZAMVAX Limited, 60% owned by IDC and 40% by Jijia. The first phase is a US$24.13 million fill-and-finish plant in the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone for up to 20 million oral cholera vaccine doses a year; IDC chief executive Cornwell Muleya put the total project at about US$213 million.
Why it matters
Local vaccine production would reduce the region's dependence on scarce global supplies of cholera vaccine.
