Botswana's bus operators are offered a 35% stake in the Tana public transport project
Botswana Bus Operators Association chairperson Tirafalo Mponang confirmed that operators have been offered a 35% stake in the Tana Botswana integrated public transport project. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure piloted Tana in Gaborone with four buses over the weekend, and Mponang said operators had been consulted on the project.
Why it matters
Giving existing operators equity is one way to bring established transport businesses into a modern public transport system rather than displace them.
