ECOWAS moves to bring the Abidjan-Lagos highway authority into operation
On 3 November 2026 ECOWAS approved measures to bring the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Management Authority (ALCoMA) into operation, including recruiting its chief executive, legal and corporate secretary and key directors. The planned six-lane, 1,028 km highway would link Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria. The African Development Bank is seeking about $500 million in catalytic capital for the first sections, having already provided more than $25 million for studies, design and technical assistance.
Why it matters
The corridor connects five of West Africa's main economies, and a working authority is needed before construction finance can flow.
