National Bank of Ethiopia holds its policy rate at 16% with inflation at 14.9%
After its eighth Monetary Policy Committee meeting, the National Bank of Ethiopia kept the National Bank Rate at 16% and the interest-rate corridor at plus or minus 300 basis points. Governor Eyob Tekalign said annual headline inflation was 14.9% in September, while net deposits rose 85.4% and outstanding credit 42.6% in the first quarter. The next meeting is due at the end of January 2027.
Why it matters
The decision sets the cost of borrowing for businesses in one of Africa's largest liberalising economies while inflation remains well above the single-digit target.
