Morocco plans MAD 9.21 billion of oil and gas exploration from 2026 to 2031
Morocco's National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) is leading a MAD 9.21 billion programme of oil and gas exploration between 2026 and 2031, according to information released on 3 November 2026. Private and international investors are expected to fund about 91% of it, around MAD 8.38 billion, with MAD 829 million from ONHYM directly.
Why it matters
Morocco imports most of its energy, so the programme depends on attracting foreign explorers to fund the risk.
