Mozambique approves a €556.4 million disaster contingency plan for 2026 to 2027
Mozambique's Council of Ministers has approved a 2026-2027 contingency plan budgeted at €556.4 million to assist 2.2 million people, government spokesperson Inocêncio Impissa said on 3 November. The government has about €327.3 million available, leaving the disaster management institute with a deficit of €229.3 million, as El Niño brings a higher chance of well-below-normal rains in the south and centre.
Why it matters
The funding gap shows how much Mozambique still relies on partners to prepare for droughts and floods.
