Japan grants Côte d'Ivoire 48.4 billion FCFA for three new interchanges in Abidjan
Côte d'Ivoire and Japan signed an agreement in Abidjan on 4 November 2026 for the second phase of a project to build three interchanges in Grand Abidjan, supported through JICA. Japan is providing a grant of 48.4 billion FCFA. The ceremony was chaired by Nialé Kaba, Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, with Japan's ambassador Junji Gomakubo and Infrastructure Minister Hien Sié Yacouba.
Why it matters
The interchanges target some of Abidjan's worst congestion, which slows the movement of people and goods in the country's commercial capital.
