Uganda puts the cost of its climate commitments at $78.1 billion over eight years
Uganda needs $78.1 billion (about Shs320.6 trillion) over the next eight years to finance its climate commitments, with 85% expected from external sources, officials said at the launch of the Uganda Climate Investment Platform. The country mobilised $272.6 million in 2023, and climate financing for 2024/25 is estimated at about $500 million, against a need of at least $5 billion a year.
Why it matters
The platform is Uganda's attempt to turn a large financing gap into projects that investors can back.
